New Zealand Trip Itinerary

28TH JULY - 19TH AUGUST 1990


SATURDAY 28TH JULY


Meet At Ronaldsway Airport no later than 6.15a.m. (THAT MEANS 6.15 IN THE MORNING - ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE SO THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE A CHEERFUL PHONECALL AT 5.15A.M. - PLEASE DON’T BE RUDE TO THE CALLER, THEY ARE JUST MAKING SURE YOU DON’T MISS THE PLANE). If you have difficulty in getting a lift to the airport let John Skinner or Jane Creer know. Depart from Ronaldsway at 7.10a.m. for the flight to Heathrow Airport, London (ACOOKED BREAKFAST WILL BE SERVED DURING THE FLIGHT SO DON’T BOTHER WITH ANY WHEN YOU GET UP). After reclaiming baggage, transfer by coach to Gatwick Airport where we will probably have to go straight to the Continental Airlines check-in desk. Depart Gatwick 1.45p.m. aboard Continental Airlines flight CO-35. Arrive Honolulu 9.50p.m. (GRASS SKIRTS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED).

SUNDAY 29TH JULY


Depart Honolulu 12.20a.m. aboard Continental Airlines flight CO-1 to Auckland.

MONDAY 30TH JULY


Arrive Auckland 7.00a.m. After clearing customs and immigration, coach will leave for Rotorua at about 9.00a.m.. Arrive at Trust Bank Rotorua Brass band room at 1.00p.m. where billets will await. The rest of the day will be free (A REHEARSAL COULD BE ARRANGED IF YOU WANT ONE).

TUESDAY 31ST JULY


School Concert at 10.00a.m. (still to be finalised). 7.30p.m. concert at Civic Theatre (rehearsal beforehand) with Trust Bank Rotorua Brass.

WEDNESDAY 1ST AUGUST


10.00a.m. - Depart from Trust Bank Rotorua Brass band room by coach. Arrive at Hastings Citizens band room at 3.00p.m. Optional rehearsal in the evening with Hawkes Bay Combined Band (see Thursday 2nd August). Rest of the day free.

THURSDAY 2ND AUGUST


9.45A.M. - Concert at Havelock North High School. 12.30p.m. - One hour concert Central Mall. 7.30p.m. - Music Theatre Concert with Hawkes Bay Combined Band - option of rehearsal beforehand instead of Wednesday evening.

FRIDAY 3RD AUGUST


10.00a.m. - Leave Hastings Citizens band room by coach. Arrive Porirua band room where billets await. Pot luck tea and rest of evening free. (DON’T ASK ME WHAT THAT MEANS, I JUST COPIED THE FAX!).

SATURDAY 4TH AUGUST


Day time free but coach tour to Wellington and suburbs available. 7.30p.m. - Concert at Southward Museum, Paraparaumu which will be a full concert by the Youth Band.

SUNDAY 5TH JULY


11.00a.m. - Coach leaves Porirua band room arriving at Warnocks Wanganui band room at 3.00p.m.where refreshments will be waiting. After a short rehearsal with Warnocks Wanganui Brass, the remainder of the day and evening will be free.

MONDAY 6TH JULY


12.00p.m. - Concert at Wanganui Collegiate. 8.00p.m. - Concert with Warnocks Wanganui Brass in the Opera House.

TUESDAY 7TH JULY


Coach leaves Warnocks Wanganui Brass band room at 9.00a.m. arriving at New Plymouth band room at 12.00p.m. 2.00p.m. - Concert at New Plymouth Boys High School. 7.30p.m. - Concert at with New Plymouth Band at State Insurance Theatre (there will be a short rehearsal beforehand).

WEDNESDAY 8TH AUGUST


Coach leaves New Plymouth band room at 11.00a.m. arriving at Telecom Hamilton Brass band room at 4.00p.m. "after a scenic journey". (SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THE COACH DRIVER DOESN’T KNOW THE WAY). 8.00p.m. - short rehearsal with Telecom Hamilton Brass plus social time.

THURSDAY 9TH AUGUST


Concert at Sacred Heart College where lunch will be served. Concert with Telecom Hamilton Brass at 7.30p.m. at salvation Army hall, London Street, Hamilton.

FRIDAY 10TH AUGUST


Coach will leave Telecom Hamilton Brass band room at about 11.00a.m. - sightseeing trip en-route to Auckland with a stop for lunch. Coach will also drive to interesting points in Auckland before going to Continental Airlines Auckland Brass band room where billets will await at about 4.00p.m. Remainder of the day and evening free.

SATURDAY 11TH AUGUST


Billets will take band to Ellerslie, home of Auckland Racing Club at 10.15a.m.. The Youth Band will play for half an hour before the first race and then six times (8-10 minutes) between races. The Band will also play “God save the Queen” before the Members Stand (THAT MEANS BEFORE THE STAND IN WHICH THE MEMBERS OF AUCKLAND RACING CLUB ARE SITTING) before the last race at 4.15p.m.. The Club provides parking, admission tickets and a lunch voucher for the party. It is anticipated that the Band will leave at about 4.45p.m. Remainder of the day free.

SUNDAY 12TH JULY


Billets will take Band to Continental Airlines Auckland Brass band room around mid-day when a short rehearsal of "Massed Bands" numbers will be held after which lunch will be served. A concert will be held at Centennial Hall, Auckland Girls Grammar School, which will commence at 2.00p.m. The format will be - Auckland Youth Symphonic Band (40 minutes), Interval (20 minutes), Manx Youth Band (40 minutes), Manx Youth Band and Continental Airlines Auckland Brass (15-20 minutes) “Massed Bands”. After the concert at about 5.00p.m.the Auckland Manx Society will have a reception in the Continental Airlines Auckland Brass band room where supper will be served and the bar will be open. THERE WILL BE SOFT DRINKS OF COURSE FOR THE UNDER 18s). The Reception should finish around 8.00p.m.

MONDAY 13TH JULY


Dame Catherine Tizard, Mayor of Auckland and Governor-General of New Zealand designate, is holding a Civic Reception for the Band and Council Members at 10.00a.m. This will take place on the 15th floor of the City Admin. Building. This will provide an opportunity for the Band to make a presentation to Dame Cath, and for a message from the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man to be presented. After the Reception the Band will proceed to St. Kentigerns College where they will give a short concert and meet the local bands from a few Auckland Schools. In the evening those interested are welcome to attend a regular rehearsal of Continental Airlines Auckland Brass in the band room and can "sit in" with the Band if they wish. The evening is free for all others.

TUESDAY 14TH JULY


Coach will leave Continental Airlines Auckland Brass band room at 9.00a.m. going direct to the Whangarei band room where lunch will be served. At 2.30p.m. the coach will take the Band to Kamo High School where a Maori welcome will be given to the party. The Youth Band will then give a short concert for the pupils of Kamo and Whangarei Intermediate School. In the evening the Band are invited to a rehearsal and social evening with the Whangarei Band.

WEDNESDAY 15TH AUGUST


Day free for sightseeing tour of the area. In the evening a concert at Whangarei Girls High School Auditorium. Similar format to the Auckland Concert.

THURSDAY 16TH AUGUST


Coach leaves Whangarei 12.00p.m. and goes direct to Auckland International Airport arriving at 4.00p.m. depart Auckland aboard Continental Airlines flight C)-2 arriving in Los Angeles at 4.10p.m. (THIS DOES NOT MEAN IT IS JUST A 10 MINUTES FLIGHT). You can wave good bye to your instruments at this point as they are being flown straight back to the Island. Transfer to hotel.

FRIDAY 17TH AUGUST


Probably a full day visit to Disneyland - if anyone is interested (IF NOT PROBABLY A FULL DAY VISIT TO DISNEYLAND).

SATURDAY 18TH AUGUST


Depart hotel early morning for Los Angeles airport. Depart Los Angeles aboard Continental Airlines flight CO-104 arriving in Houston at 5.00p.m. Depart Houston aboard Continental Airlines flight CO-4.

SUNDAY 19TH JULY


Arrive London Gatwick 9.45a.m. The flight to the Isle of Man will leave Heathrow at 7.30p.m. arriving at Ronaldsway at approximately 8.15p.m. (THERE WILL BE A SHORT REHEARSAL AFTER WHICH YOU CAN ALL GO HOME TO BED).
