Manx Youth Band Flag day 2012

On Saturday 7th July our organisation held its 2012 flag day in Regent Street in Douglas town centre.
The table manned by members of the social committee was set up just before 10:30 and then not long after the Manx Youth Band and a few helpers from Manx Concert Brass began the first of our one and a half hour playing stints, entertaining the public with an assortment of music from the bands repertoire. While the band was playing the supporters were shaking the buckets and talking to passers by, not only raising money but also raising awareness of the organisation and what we are all about.
The public had the chance to have a go on one of the instruments and we held a longest note competition which was won by Abby Quirk and Charlie Henthorn both with 26 seconds. Also at the table we were selling the bands cds and handing out flyers for the Gala Concert and the Last Night of the proms as well as some free sweets and cakes.
After a break the band played a few more tunes between 1.30pm and 3.00pm. The atmosphere in Regent Street was buzzing and at times, while the band played, quite an audience had gathered.
821.95 was raised which is a super effort and added to the 310 pounds raised at a collection from the Gaiety the same day 1131.95 was raised in total. Thanks again to all involved in the day, especially Linda and Sue for all their work at the table and putting the event together. To the parents and young ones who shook the collection buckets and also to Ian and all who turned up to play. It was a very enjoyable day and a great way to raise money as well as promoting the work that everyone is doing throughout the organisation.
