Manx Youth Band Plays at the Opening Ceremony of the Manx Youth Games

Last Saturday, 19th May, before most of the Band are usually out of bed the members of the Manx Youth Band arrived at the National Sports Centre to play for the opening ceremony of the 11th running of the Manx Youth Games.

The Band played a selection of pieces running up to the 10.00am start of the ceremony which was attended by a number of Island dignitaries including the Patron of the Band, His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, Mr Adam Wood.

At 10.00am the National Anthem was played for the Governorís arrival and then it was the turn of the Islandís youth to take centre stage as they were marched onto the playing fields to the marches of Ivanhoe, True and Trusty and many more.

This was then followed by the official opening and the playing of the Manx National Anthem which was again led by the Band.

This is a very important engagement in the Bandís diary and it highlights the organisations continued support for the Island Community, playing for such a high profile event. Thanks to all that turned out at 8.45 on a sunny but chilly Saturday morning. Well done to all, especially the Percussion section, Callum, James Crellin, Colin and James Davis who kept the Marches going while all the competitors came into the stadium.
