Young musicians pass exams with flying colours

January 2010

Members of the Manx National Youth Band are pictured with their certificates after their success in Associated Board Music Exams.

Thirty players have received their results within the last few weeks and the band which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year is proud to report that all of them have passed, the majority with merit or distinction.

The players have been working over the last few months on their scales, two pieces, one study, a sight reading and some aural tests.

Eight players scored distinctions and the highest performer was Matthew Naylor who on his baritone scored a magnificent 141 out of 150.

The results are a credit to the hard work that both the players and the teachers have put in since the beginning of September. Special thanks go to accompanist Julian Power and to all the teachers for their support.

The players, along with the remainder of the Youth Band, played a short concert at the band\'s rehearsal room where they were presented with their certificates by the band\'s musical director Ian Clague.
